3 June: Mabo Day
Celebrates the handing down of the High Court Mabo Decision that first recognised native title in Australia.

1 July: Coming of the Light
This festival marks the day the London Missionary Society first arrived in the Torres Strait at Erub Island in 1871.

6-13 July: NAIDOC Week
The National Aboriginal and Islander Day of Celebration is now celebrated annually throughout Australia. It is an opportunity to celebrate and share Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

17-18 Sept: Torres Strait Cultural Festival
The festival occurs every two years.
