Protocols for radio interviews The radio is a powerful tool to inform the widespread communities in Torres Strait about research of CRC Torres Strait. The radio station 4MW on Thursday Island is run by the Torres Strait Islander Media Association (TSIMA). They broadcast from Monday through Friday from 8am until 5pm. The radio is received throughout the Torres Strait islands, to Western Province in PNG and to Laura in mainland Australia. 4MW (1260 AM) broadcasts in Creole so it is recommended that researchers provide information in advance which can be translated during the talkback and current affairs/news session between 11am - 12am. 4MW should be informed in advance to secure an interview. It is recommended that researchers do an interview about their research in the Torres Strait before they arrive (by phone), when they get to Torres Strait (in the studio on Thursday Island) and also after they finish their work (either in the studio or by phone). Before starting a radio interview on 4MW, acknowledge Traditional Owners by saying "I would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of this land."
